SUBJECT:  chocolate almond joy

I am very interested in what you think of the limited edition (Dark) Chocolate Almond Joy. You didn’t like the pina colada version, but I have had the chocolate one and LOVED it! But then again, as a diehard Mounds fan who wished they would come out with one with a nut as well, the only way they could have improved it was to make the COCONUT chocolate! OMG! Chocolate inside, dark chocolate outside, and two lovely almonds in each bar! I have gone to heaven and lived to spread the gospel. Can I have and amen brothers? Rating…10 out of 10…cost…fifty cents at Albertsons grocery store. I loved this so much I made my husband run out and stock up on ten more bars before they sold out! BTW, love your site! Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Catherine S.

Catherine - we think you've done a fine job reviewing the Dark Chocolate Almond Joy for us. And props to your husband for understanding and supporting your passion. One question, though. You say, "As a diehard Mounds fan who wished they would come out with one with a nut, as well..." Um, isn't that called an Almond Joy bar? (We do like your suggestion about making the coconut chocolate. But why stop there? Why not also dip the almonds in chocolate before covering the entire almonds-and-coconut combo in the chocolate covering? We'd call it the Double-Dipped Almond Joy.)

SUBJECT: Basil's Bavarian Baker Animal Crackers

I've gotta go with a previous emailer on this one: Basil's Bavarian Bakery Low Fat Animal Crackers are so much better than any animal cracker I've ever had before. Is that a hint of gingerbread I taste? Whatever it is, it's great!

~ Matthew

Matthew, normally we avoid anything Low Fat. But with two endorsements of this brand of Animal Cracker, we're doing our best to track down a box of Basil's. If anyone would like to send us one, email Paddy O'Poppycock.

SUBJECT: mmmm...snacks

Greetings!

Your site is fan-tas-tique! I only wish I discovered it before I tried the Toll House Cookie bars on my own - what a disappointment!

Anyway - if you're looking for a unique yet delicious snack, I must insist that you try Orville Redenbacher's Cinnibon popcorn. It's the crack of snack foods - instantly addicting! If this is unavailable in your area, please let me know and I will be glad to ship you some (if I can pry it out of my husband's hands!)

Another gem that I stumbled up recently are Mr.Goodbar Bites. They are quite similar to Goobers, but have a tiny bit more of a salty taste to them. I refuse to watch a movie without them!
Keep snacking!

cheers,
Lisa

Great suggestions, Lisa!  We've now reviewed Mr. Goodbar Bites (based on your recommendation), and to save your husband the aggravation, we searched a number of regional stores before finding and purchasing our own box of Cinnabon popcorn for a later review, likely in October.

10/10 UPDATE - The Orville Redenbacher Cinnabon Cinnamon popcorn review is now live.

SUBJECT: Vienna Fingers

Love the page, and maybe you can do a feature on the death of the sunshine brand...it's been a while since I've had Vienna Fingers, but I remember them tasting good (only when softened with milk) but being dry and on the bland end of the flavor spectrum...what I did not know was that Keebler had purchased the brand and has been switching some of the cookies and crackers to the Keebler brand over the years... the review of Vienna Fingers got me searching for more information...there is a rather interesting page on hydrox cookies, and how Nabisco gave the public the old give-and-go with sandwich cookies...the page is http://www.spacefem.com/hydrox/

Anyway, love the page...the only issue I have is the review of the white chocolate peanut butter cups...they are best cold, but the salty nature of the white chocolate gives the peanut butter a more neutral base...I'd suggest popping them in the fridge or freezer, granted the reviews tend to be of snacks in their natural state, but in this case, it makes quite a difference...

cheers,
dan

Now this right here is why we review snacks. For all those other passionate snackers out there. Dan, thanks for digging a bit about Keebler, Sunshine, Vienna Fingers and Hydrox.

SUBJECT
: Mallo-Cups

No snack page would be complete without a review of these tasty treats.

- Jon S.

Agreed. We're trying to track this down now, Jon... if necessary, we'll order some online. This was a favorite of Paddy O' Poppycock's father, perhaps the greatest snacker to have ever walked the earth.

10/25 Update: The Mallo Cup review is now live.

SUBJECT: Hooter's Potato Chips

I had some the other day from my office vending machine and they were quite good. They are wing flavored, but not too spicy. I'd like to see what you guys have to say about them.

- Margaret B.

Margaret, we're having a devil of a time locating these chips. If you or anyone else wants to send us a bag, please email Paddy O' Poppycock.

SUBJECT: snack suggestion

I think someone should review the new Swoops! They make them in a Hershey's Milk Chocolate version and a Reese's version. They look like Pringles, both in candy formation and in packaging. I hope you happy snackers review this one!

- Rachelle

You got it, Rachelle.

SUBJECT: suggest a snack...

One word... Bun.

--chocky

We just ordered one online, based on your recommendation. Look for it in October, chocky.

11/06 Update: Okay, so it took us until November. But our Bun review is now live.

SUBJECT: dolly madison pound cake

dolly madison pound cake in plastic wrap next to zingers.

- Nanja

We've found this treat in numerous places, Nanja, but never next to the Zingers. Oh well, sorry.
(Okay, yes, we're just being facetious. Too much C2 too early in the morning. When we track this down, we'll give it a try.)

SUBJECT: My fav snack...

Have you guys ever tried Golden Flake's Hot Chips?  To die for, to be sure.

- Suzanne

Kid Nougat tried desperately to track this down, Suzanne. No dice. If you or anyone else wants to send us a bag, please email Paddy O' Poppycock.

Frito Lay Munchies – in all varieties are great snacks and would make for great test subjects. A coworker mentioned your site to me after I mentioned Munchies to him. He was skeptical of my thoughts on the product and, somehow, he knew of your site. Munchies have several variations (original, kids, cheesy, spicy), so I’m not sure how you’ll face that. :)

Thanks!
- heidi

Heidi, we had not heard of these snacks, but we've purchased two separate varieties for future snack reporting. We would try them all, but we're no longer spry 18-year-olds with the metabolism speed of sulfuric acid. Thanks for the heads up - and thank your co-worker for passing along our site to you.

SUBJECT: Kit Kat Big Kat

You should review the Kit Kat Big Kat candy bar. It has everything you like from a normal kit-kat, but delivered in one large bar. It's great. Perfect for those of us too lazy to break off four individual wafers. It has more chocolate, more crispy crunchy goodness. Only 65 cents at our vending.

Christian

Nice suggestion, Christian. We're definitely familiar with this snack - in fact, I believe Sir Snackalot once beat a potential mugger mercilessly with a Big Kat back in the late 90s. We'll add this to our snack list - thanks!

 SUBJECT: How about trying ...

... a Route 44 orange slush from Sonic? It will last all day long. I think that this is the most refreshing drink on the planet!

- Cindy

P.S. My 10-year-old son is a self proclaimed 'chicken nugget' connoisseur. He wants to start a web site that list all the chicken nuggets, chicken fingers & etc. that he's tried. He has a 'Top 10' list. I showed him your site. He enjoyed it. If he ever starts a website (which I think he will) I will e-mail you the link.

Next time Paddy O' is in Chattanooga, Tennessee (hometown of his fiancée), he's going to go for a Route 44 Orange Slush, no doubt. In the meantime, Cindy, we're looking forward to hearing more from your son and his Chicken Connoisseur site.

SUBJECT: Mama's Cookies

Hey, Guys!

Has anyone ever asked about Mama's cookies? I remember eating these when I was a kid. They were pretty small, had a hole in the middle, came in chocolate and vanilla and had a dusting of granulated sugar on them.

I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio...maybe it was a regional thing? But it seems they sponsored the Uncle Al Show...

Thanks!
Kirsten

p.s. Oh, and I appreciated the loud exclamation of "SNACKS!" when I moused-over the reviewer's column on your main page...Guess I shouldn't have had my sound up so loud here at work!

Finally! We've been waiting for years to hear if our "Snacks!" exclamation (voiced by our very own Paddy O') busted anyone at work. That said, we fully encourage snack report reading at the workplace. After all, that's where we write them. (Just kidding. Sorta'.)

As for Mama's cookies... we'll start looking around. The way you've described them sounds familiar, but that brand doesn't ring any bells. If you or anyone else would like to send us some, please email Paddy O' Poppycock.

SUBJECT: Killer Movie Snack

All I can say is if you don't try this then don't  knock it. Hot Tamales and popcorn. No kidding, mix them together and they are GREAT!  Best when mixed with Blast-o-Butter popcorn. See you at the movies...

Not if you're eating Hot Tamales, we won't. That said, Kid Nougat may still give your suggestion a try. Brave, foolish Kid Nougat.

SUBJECT: Snacktastic snackgestion

Fellow Snackers:

Might I suggest Tostitos Hint of Lime chips? They are beyond tasty. My roommates and I are constantly buying these. The first time I brought them home was the first week I moved into my house...I barely knew these girls, who are now among my best friends. I think they are my friends mostly because Tostitos Hint of Limes broke the ice. Snacking crosses all boundaries, especially with women.

These days, we buy these chips in bulk, lovingly call them "crack chips" (because we've seriously considered snorting the chip-dust residue), and even label bags for special occasions. For example, with my trusty Sharpie pen, I recently drew the Olympic rings and some olive branch wreaths on a bag to signify that those were our official Olympic-watching snacks. Tostitos Hint of Lime plus Michael Phelps plus Paul Hamm...life doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks for making the Internet a more snacktastic place,

- Laura

We hear ya, Laura. Enjoy.

Every month or so, we post your messages right here, along with our response. We'll even correct your typos. Hell, it's a virtual snacker lovefest. Without all the hugging and immediate awkwardness that follows.
